Pennington, NJ--PD-LD has earned US Patent #7,982,869, which protects the use of dual-laser sources for analyzing a single substance. This novel technique is based on the company's VBG laser wavelength stabilization, and provides the underlying mechanism for shifted excitation Raman differential spectroscopy (SERDS).

SERDS represents a significant development in the capabilities of Raman spectroscopy. The patent enables the company to offer Raman excitation sources that extend the capability of portable and lab-based Raman instruments alike, and is particularly relevant to the life sciences and security industries, where fluorescence is widespread, says PD-LD CEO Vladimir Ban.

The newly patented methodology is exclusive to the company, with no current licensees of the patent family. This could yield a new family of patents in the coming year, says PD-LD president Uri Abrams.
