Erlangen, German – LPKF Laser & Electronics AG has made improvements to its TwinWeld hybrid welding system. Instead of complex clamping tools, this method requires only the use of an inexpensive component holder. In addition, an integrated rotary indexing table supports two stations: a loading/unloading station and a welding station.

East Granby, Conn. – Joining Technologies, an innovator in laser cladding, electron beam and laser welding applications, is a 2010 winner of Connecticut Quality Improvement Award’s CQIA Innovation Prize for its Infinite Web, a laser cutting and welding system for splicing iron and nickel-based strip alloys.

East Granby, Conn. – Joining Technologies is adding a new laser cladding work cell to its laser additive manufacturing division and will open an additional production facility next month to house the unit along with other equipment related to the laser additive process.

Monrovia, Calif. – Miyachi Unitek Corp., a manufacturer of welding equipment and systems, has installed an LF1000A fiber laser welder in its Midwest applications lab.

The 24th International Conference on Surface Modification Technologies (SMT 24) assembles the international community in surface modification technologies and material sciences from September 6-9 in Dresden.

Kawasaki, Japan – Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has launched a five-year, next-generation laser development program as joint efforts between its R&D departments and nine industrial companies, according to the July 15th edition of Metalworking Insiders' Report.

Westford, Mass. – Laser Services has expanded capabilities in both ceramic materials inventory and its laser-based machining services for those materials. The company is a value-added storehouse for a range of ceramic substrates (primarily alumina) from suppliers including Coorstek, CeramTec, and Kyocera.
