Aachen, Germany – The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT will present a laser welding innovation, TransTWIST, at an upcoming trade fair. TransTWIST welds together two transparent joining parts without having to add any laser beam energy absorbers.

Erlangen, Germany – As of autumn 2010, reflection diagnosis will be available as an option on LPKF Laser & Electronics AG welding systems. Reflection diagnosis makes use of the physical effect of light reflection at boundary surfaces.

Buffalo, N.Y. – Moisture and particulate matter pose a serious challenge to the laser welding of plastic components. The perfect weld can only be achieved if the laser diode used to carry out the process operates optimally in a moisture and particle free environment. The presence of either of these two can shorten the operational life of the laser and increase its operating cost.
