RedShift Systems selects IMT as foundry partner for thermal-imaging device

SEPTEMBER 21, 2007--RedShift Systems (Burlington, MA, USA; www.redshiftsystems.com), a provider of next-generation thermal-imaging solutions, has selected Innovative Micro Technology (IMT), a microelectromechanical-systems (MEMS) foundry, as its partner to produce its thermal light valve (TLV). The TLV is a solid-state, passive optical component that shifts long-wavelength thermal infrared radiation to visible light, allowing standard CMOS and CCD digital cameras to "see heat." The TLV enables a new generation of affordable IR imaging devices that will rapidly expand the market for thermal imaging.

"Manufactured with just a handful of process steps, our TVL is lower cost than the more established microbolometer products," said Matthias Wagner, CEO of RedShift Systems. "With IMT's MEMS capabilities we are now positioned to expand low-cost thermal imaging into mass markets that have been unable to afford current solutions."
