San Francisco, CA--In addition to recent video from StellarNet, Stanford Photonics, and Newport taken at SPIE's Photonics West 2010, we talked to Vytran about much more than fusion splicing, Toshiba showed us images of their tiny camera flying into space on a chair carried by a balloon, and our videographers in Tulsa, OK put together a summary 'Highlights Show' that will hopefully summarize the flavor of Photonics West 2010.
Vytran is working on much more than fusion splicing these days. They recently demonstrated an all-fiber laser-beam combiner (look for the news story in the April issue of Laser Focus World magazine), have perfected adiabatic or “lossless” fiber tapering, and are able to create a number of fused-fiber terminations for a variety of medical and industrial applications:
Toshiba launched its tiny camera into space aboard a lightweight chair carried by a balloon. The chair didn’t survive, but the Toshiba camera did and was able to image the entire journey:
