Among the significant advances in video surveillance over the past decade is the advent of digital systems, which free users from watching hours of tape and enable easy, systematic data storage and retrieval. Beyond technological advances, adoption in new applications has also grown: The education, banking, retail, transportation and other sectors recognize the advantages of video surveillance--even in global real-time and remote supervision.

This webcast will discuss the components of video surveillance systems, including video cameras, video analytics, storage, and servers. It will explore trends in components and applications, covering cameras (CCD, CMOS, low-light-level, near-infrared and infrared), interfaces, storage devices and servers, operating systems, and software; in uses such as face recognition (biometrics), license plate reading, crowd monitoring.
